eIDAS 2.0: the EU digital identity regulation

Why it is worth attention: Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 amends the original 2014 eIDAS regulation and obliges member states to offer citizens a European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) for logging in and presenting documents, both online and offline, across the EU.
What to take from it: this is a legislative framework, not a finished application – the wallet's concrete shape, its schemas and interoperability are still being worked out in the implementing acts the regulation points to.
